She has filed a lawsuit in Illinois, suing five companies that were the manufacturers of such carcinogenic hair straighteners.
Patrice Hester worked as a real estate agent and was the mother of three girls - Arianna Hester, Kiesha Hester, and Kiana Hester. She died at the age of 68 because of uterine cancer. Her children shared how Patrice was always of the opinion that they should straighten their hair every day to avoid seeking unwanted attention as black women thriving in society. She wanted her daughters not to let their racial identity affect their careers, and wished they would blend in with everyone else.
In the year 2021, Patrice got diagnosed with uterine cancer, but unaware of the risks of hair relaxers, she continued using them even though her daughters tried to restrict her from doing so. Even when she passed on at the age of 68, her hair was freshly straightened.
This case is a clear example of how hair relaxers ruined the lives of people and also their loved ones.
